Emergency Contraception

If you have had unprotected sex or your usual contraception has failed, you can get emergency hormonal contraception (the morning-after pill) free from our pharmacy on the NHS. No appointment is needed. Simply walk in during opening hours.

We supply Levonorgestrel, which is effective when taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected intercourse. The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is. Our pharmacist will carry out a short, discreet private consultation to make sure the treatment is suitable for you.

This service is available to anyone who needs it, regardless of age. Everything discussed during your consultation is completely confidential.

Repeat Contraceptive Pill

Through the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service, you can now get your regular oral contraceptive pill directly from our pharmacy without needing a GP appointment. This means no more waiting for a doctor just to get a repeat supply.

Our pharmacist will carry out a brief health check, including a blood pressure measurement, and can then supply up to 12 months of your regular oral contraceptive pill. If you are already established on a pill prescribed by your GP or sexual health clinic, we can continue your supply seamlessly.

This service is completely free on the NHS and is designed to make it easier and more convenient for you to stay on top of your contraception.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is emergency contraception really free from the pharmacy?

Yes. Through the NHS, emergency hormonal contraception (the morning-after pill) is available free of charge from our pharmacy. You do not need a prescription, and there is no charge regardless of your age or exemption status.

How quickly do I need to take the morning-after pill?

Levonorgestrel is most effective the sooner it is taken after unprotected intercourse. It can be taken up to 72 hours (3 days) afterwards, but effectiveness decreases with time. Visit us as soon as possible for the best outcome.

Can I get my contraceptive pill without seeing my GP?

Yes. If you are already taking an oral contraceptive pill, our pharmacist can provide a repeat supply for up to 12 months through the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service. We carry out a short health check including blood pressure, and you can walk away with your supply the same day.

Do I need to make an appointment?

No appointment is needed for emergency contraception. Simply walk in during opening hours. For repeat contraceptive pill supplies, you can also walk in, though calling ahead can help us prepare for your visit.

Is the service confidential?

Absolutely. All consultations take place in our private consultation room. Your information is treated in strict confidence and will not be shared without your consent.
