While waiting for your appointment or alongside any treatment, you can apply a warm compress over your nose and forehead, use a saline nasal rinse or spray, inhale steam from a bowl of hot water, stay well hydrated, and take paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain relief. How long does a sinusitis consultation take?
A typical consultation takes around 10 to 15 minutes. The pharmacist will ask about your symptoms, their duration, and your medical history before recommending the most appropriate treatment for you.
When should I seek urgent medical attention for sinusitis?
You should seek urgent care if you experience swelling around your eyes, changes in vision, a severe headache that does not respond to painkillers, a very high temperature, or if you feel generally very unwell. For emergencies, call 999. For urgent advice, call NHS 111.
